About this deal

That half-century’s worth of analog expertise goes into every turntable we produce, ensuring you get the best listening experience from your vinyl. The on board phono stage is also retained and this is a neat feature because it means the LP5X will always work so long as you have an analogue line in and, if you do have a phono stage you regard as better, you can switch it off and bypass it too. The adjustable speed settings give vinyl enthusiasts the flexibility to enjoy a wide range of records, from classic LPs to obscure single-sided 78 RPM shellac discs. Although it might not look like it, the spindle and platter have been gently revised but the platter remains the same aluminium type that is damped by a heavy and relatively thick rubber mat.

AC ADAPTER OUTSIDE CHASSIS : AC adapter handles AC/DC conversion outside of the chassis, reducing noise in the signal chain. Ho letto con molto interesse la chiara recensione dato che sono proprietario dell’Audio techica LP5. On the Tull LP, the LP5x provided more control in the bass region and added refinement and complexity in the lower frequencies. Besides a very slight hum, only noticeable at high volume, the phono stage is quiet with excellent sound staging, great dynamic range and a clean, crisp sound without a hint of overload. Great product with clean fresh sound This is the first “better quality” turntable that I have bought. If you’re new to this, the Audio-Technica manual gives comprehensive instructions which (spelling mistakes aside) should be easy to follow.

Can the LP5X keep what made its predecessor great and take the fight to a new generation of belt drive rivals? The AT-LP5X is a marvel of engineering with its die-cast aluminum platter and heavy-duty construction. The motor whips the platter up to speed quickly with a slight growl as it locks onto the correct speed. Part of the reason is that the 140 includes a large power supply, built into the chassis whereas the LP5x expels its power supply as a wall wart. It was a departure from most of the affordable turntables it competed against because it combined direct drive with the design sensitivities of single speed playback rather than being pitched as able to do a spot of DJ work.

The VM95ML stylus upgrade has the Microline stylus, which is one of the best profiles available, and is significantly cheaper. We think it sounds a touch cleaner and clearer than before, but not enough for it to be worth anyone with the older deck upgrading to this. It keeps a very consistent sped with no noticeable wow or flutter and motor noise is not a problem as the motor is very quiet. Drawing on Audio-Technica's heritage, the AT-LP5X features a precision-engineered J-shaped tonearm, ensuring optimal sound quality and reduced distortion. Likewise, the performance gains from chopping in the rubber mat and going for a Funk Firm Achromat are also worthwhile. No deposit required up front, pay the balance in full before the end of the 6-month period and there is no interest to pay whatsoever. but really wanted to see if there were some comparable Direct Drive tables before making a purchase. From what I gather in this discussion and previous ones that I have read, if looking for a new turntable in that 500-1000 range, it seems that belt driven is the substantially better option in terms of sound quality?
