We work closely with publishers and authors to ensure that we offer the best books on the market for your child.Behrouz Boochani has received another award for his book written from an Australian-run detention centre on Papua New Guinea’s Manus Island, No Friend But the Mountains – this time for the audiobook narrated by the Farsi translator Omid Tofighian and other high-profile Australians, including Benjamin Law, Isobelle Carmody, Janet Galbraith, Mathilda Imlah, Geoffrey Robertson, Richard Flanagan, Sarah Dale, Thomas Keneally and Yumi Stynes. Once they get to the sand they commence the activities that most Australian families do upon arrival at the beach: delight in the texture of the sand, apply sun cream and zinc, set up the sunshade, play jump the waves, soak up the sunshine, make sandcastles and bury your siblings legs in the sand in a mermaid tail.
Final verdict: BLUEY: THE BEACH is a charming beach adventure about bravery and trying something new that is sure to capture young imaginations. The Bluey books line has been a sales machine for PRH, with books from the series being the second-, third- and fourth-biggest selling children’s books in Australia in 2019.The lift-the-flap element gives the book another later of intrigue and tactile involvement, as readers are actively participating in the story. Pipi's feed by taking in water and feeding on the Phytoplankton, then they squirt out the water so they can take in more. Pretending to be a mermaid who has finally got her legs for the day, she embarks on a precious solo adventure, following Mum’s footprints along the shoreline. A sand carving and seashell portrayal of mermaid Bingo can be seen on the abandoned sand castle that Bluey plants the stick in.
Her favourite games are ones that involve lots of other kids and grown-ups (especially her dad) and she mainly likes to pretend she’s a grown up doing grownup things herself. All of these nuggets make this book worth reading, but there’s not much that tops your toddler getting particularly excited at Bluey’s reunion with mum. Products shown, tagged or featured on YouTube by creators are sold by merchants and are subject to merchant's terms and conditions. These examples are great for young children, who will appreciate the context of nerves around trying something new. I do think that the story works better as an episode, but it still far better than most tie in novels that I read to the kids.
