About this deal

He helped design the haunting imagery for Swiss psyche rockers Walpurgis’ 1969 album, The Shiver , Emerson Lake, and Palmer’s gold-selling 1973 LP, Brain Salad Surgery , and the sleeve for French prog-rockers Magma’s 1978 record Attahk . Online since 2010 it is one of the fastest-growing and most respected music-related publications on the net. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Harry wrote about this in Heavy Metal magazine, which often featured the artist, saying “Giger’s work has a subconscious effect: it engenders the fear of being turned into metal. Harry was looking for an artist for her first solo album and Giger signed up instantly, infatuated with the beautiful musician.

The disco-leaning song, written by Chic’s Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, is a lot more upbeat than the imagery. Harry’s once sunshine-esque look is far gone, replaced by a genuinely gothic, almost horrifying aesthetic. R. Giger, acclaimed for his designs for Ridley Scott’s movie Alien in 1979, had superimposed needles on a portrait of Debbie’s face taken by photographer Brian Aris.Science fiction and ancient Egyptian cultures are extremely important for me, and I follow eastern spiritual and health practices, including acupuncture, so I’m geeking out hugging the book to my face.

But before he actually went home, he stopped off in New York City, where he took that Oscar to an art museum show of his work. The video for “Now I Know You Know,” also written by Rodgers and Edwards, is even eerier with Harry flexing in a Giger-designed body suit with long black hair.It was in one way a throwback to Giger’s other famous record cover, the one for Emerson, Lake, and Palmer’s Brain Salad Surgery.

The artist put four spikes through her neck, cheeks and temple, which meant to symbolize the four elements of nature. Undoubtedly, the 1981 image would go on to play its hand in influencing Clive Barker’s Hellraiser, its race of antagonistic Cenobites, and particularly their leader, Pinhead. Giger noted the meeting and once said: “There I was introduced to a very beautiful woman, Debbie Harry, the singer of the group Blondie, and her boyfriend, Chris Stein. Stein and Harry became friends, lovers and bandmates, but he also became something of a personal photographer, capturing her every move. She released her second solo album, 1986's Rockbird, and starred in John Waters's cult dance film Hairspray (1988). So really this book functions as a sort of exhibition catalogue – although this collection is, apparently, more comprehensive than the physical exhibition was. Stein chronicled the band’s early beginnings on camera, from the nascent New York punk scene to the international celebrities they worked with, including Andy Warhol.

Born in 1940 to a chemist’s family in Chur, Switzerland, he moved in 1962 to Zurich, where he studied architecture and industrial design at the School of Applied Arts. It’s a unique chronicle of a unique event and a glimpse into the creativity of two icons of the 1970s and 1980s.Debbie flashed back, “the ban is ridiculous when you consider the sort of posters which exploit women and advertise violent films.
