Already, Joe is beginning to become an annoyance to the reader and his manipulations this time around are far less subtle and he is clearly nowhere near as clever as he thinks he is. A dark, fun and frightening character study that deeply (and I do mean deeply) explores the hypocrisy of the trendsetters of the moment and those who follow them. The author didn’t only destroy his character and his creepy but somewhat likable memory of the previous book, she also crashed his body trembling down for several times with her car! It's beautifully-written and the writing has a dynamic flow that keeps the pages moving quickly, and yet there's no spark of discovery. And when he finds it in a darkened room in Soho House, he’s more desperate than ever to keep his secrets buried. Every character in Hidden Bodies could have been replaced with any stereotypical Los Angeles “wannabe” with interpersonal issues. After even his parents give him up for dead, only his best friend, Chloe, remains certain that he would come back.
