About this deal

Save for renditions of 'All Apologies' and 'Come As You Are', the adventurous material includes brooding covers of the Meat Puppets' 'Lake of Fire', 'Plateau', and 'Oh Me' as well as harrowing versions of David Bowie's 'The Man Who Sold the World', and the Vaselines' 'Jesus Don't Want Me for a Sunbeam'. Some electronic amplification and guitar effects were used, and the song list was more than a run through of fan favourites, but included some cover versions including David Bowie’s ‘The Man who Sold the World’. Among the rehearsals – which were previously only available as bonus content on the MTV Unplugged in New York – is a different take on the David Bowie cover “The Man Who Sold the World,” a version that finds both Nirvana and the production team finding their footing ahead of the concert.

Rather, the live effort is among the most emotionally naked spectacles ever released an album so starkly intense and profoundly personal, it's impossible not to get chills down the spine. It features an acoustic performance taped at Sony Music Studios in New York City on November 18, 1993 for the television series MTV Unplugged. In addition, Cobain was unconvinced that Grohl would be able to play in a restrained fashion (Grohl was given brushes for the first time, and adapted to them immediately). Named one of the 10 best live albums of all time by Rolling Stone, Nirvana’s “Unplugged in New York” will be reissued on 2LP vinyl in celebration of the 25th anniversary of its 1994 release. This posthumously released live album, recorded at Sony Music Studios, New York on November 18, 1993 for MTV’s Unplugged series, was an intimate, acoustic session that was a definite departure from Nirvana’s previous outing, In Utero. All songs written by Kurt Cobain and published by The End of Music (SESAC) / BMG Rights Management (UK) Ltd (PRS) except "Jesus Doesn't Want Me For A Sunbeam" written by Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee and published by Domino Publishing Company Of America, Inc. All image and audio content is used by permission of the copyright holders or their agents, and/or according to fair dealing as per the UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. In addition to the 180gm black vinyl edition that will be available wherever fine vinyl is sold, an exclusive, limited edition colored vinyl edition will be available only at Nirvana.

Upon finding out that Nirvana would be playing its lesser known songs and covers from bands like Meat Puppets, MTV tried to pressure the band into playing more of their hits, or inviting more popular bands to play with the band. This, in many senses, isn’t just an abnormal Nirvana record, capturing them in their sincerest desire to be R. Recorded in November 1993, less than six months before singer Kurt Cobain killed himself, Nirvana's MTV Unplugged is a watershed document that presents the band at the peak of its powers.
