About this deal

The epic ‘This Corrosion’ from Sisters Of Mercy starts CD3 in grandiose style – and is followed with atmospheric masterpieces from Siouxsie And The Banshees, Bauhaus, The Cure and a second appearance from Joy Division – before some late-80s Alternative essentials, including Bjork’s band The Sugarcubes, Act, The Mission, All About Eve, The Cult’s ‘Edie (Ciao Baby)’, ‘This Is England’ from The Clash, and The Fall’s version of ‘There’s A Ghost In My House’, before closing with two more great examples of U.

In the run-up to Christmas each year, Now Music would flip to a Christmas music format under the name NOW Christmas, with the temporary suspension of the normal contemporary output (in 2012, Greatest Hits TV became "Christmas Hits TV"). From 20 November to 26 December 2018, NOW 80s was rebranded temporarily as NOW Christmas, and was repeated again in 2019 while NOW 80s moved to the slot formerly used by Total Country, [1] and a similar change happened in 2020 with NOW 80s moving to the slot usually used by NOW 90s. As Now 80s became a channel which only viewers in Manchester could get on Freeview during this time, AATW decided to simulcast the repeats of Fame on their Now Christmas channel so viewers nationwide could follow the series. Post-Punk Pop exploded on the charts of the early 80s, and The Associates and The Stranglers feature, as do The Adventures ‘Broken Land’ and Marc Almond’s ‘Stories Of Johnny’ – both amazing songs. In 1981, Toyah would become a Top 10 regular, but in 1980 ‘Ieya’ was a huge track on the Independent chart and Sparks enjoyed a European smash with the Giorgio Moroder and Harold Faltermeyer produced ‘When I’m With You’. S. New Wave smash with ‘Whip It’, and fantastic unique hits from Scarlet Fantastic, Split Enz, Our Daughter’s Wedding, Anne Pigalle and ‘Flowers’ by Zaine Griff (featuring Kate Bush on backing vocals) are all included. In June 2018 availability of NOW 80s was extended to Freeview HD owners in more parts of the country by relocating to the Arqiva COM8 multiplex. The first disc includes the likes of Duran Duran (‘Rio (Part II)’), Spandau Ballet (‘Instinction (Remix)’), Visage (‘The Damned Don’t Cry (Dance Mix)’), The Human League (‘Mirror Man (Extended Version)’), Japan (‘Life In Tokyo (1982 12″ Extended Remix)’), Gary Numan (‘Music For Chameleons (Extended Version)’) and Tears For Fears (‘Pale Shelter (Long Version)’). As the singles chart continued to reflect the rise of Synth-Pop and the burgeoning New Romantic scene – two of the first era defining extended versions are here, from Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark with the re-recorded, longer 10” single version of ‘Messages’ – and ‘To Cut A Long Story Short’ the debut from one of the decades’ most successful groups, Spandau Ballet. In November 2017, NOW 80s and NOW 90s (then broadcasting as NOW Christmas) were added to the GMAN Freeview multiplex broadcasting to Greater Manchester. NOW Music proudly presents NOW – 80s Alternative: 80 tracks across 4 CDs encapsulating the era and celebrating an incredibly diverse decade for ‘Alternative’ music. On 22 September 2022, Now 80s was added as a streamed channel to Samsung TV Plus, which can be accessed on most Samsung TVs, Smartphones and Tablets, on channel 4717.

Pure party fun tracks including ‘Can Can’, ‘The Birdie Song’ and ‘Star Trekkin’ lead the way to a trio of iconic 80s movie themes… ‘Ghostbusters’ from Ray Parker Jr. Non-personalized content and ads are influenced by things like the content you’re currently viewing and your location (ad serving is based on general location).
