Also joining the portfolio is Il Dottore gin, inspired by Venetian doctors battling the black plague with gin-based remedies. This Kazakhstan vodka is named after the world's first cosmonauts, two dogs who were launched into space from Baikanur in Kazakhstan. Their survival was cause for celebration, Soviet pride, and a whole lot of commemorative tchotchkes, ranging from candy tins to plates to porcelain figurines. This triple distilled vodka is made in Kazakhstan with the same heroic spirit as the brave space dogs.

Unfortunately, she died from overheating within the first seven hours of the five-month mission—a detail that was not made public until 2002. The real Belka and Strelka, preserved via taxidermy, reside at the Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics in Moscow. You'll struggle to find a cocktail or mixer it won't go perfectly with, but we prefer to add a shot of it to an ice cold glass of Fentimans Curiosity Cola, a mix otherwise known to you and us as "Curious Cosmonauts". You might know the story of Belka and Strelka: two stray dogs who were plucked from the streets of Moscow, trained up and fired into space from Kazakhstan. The vodka needed to feel like a poster; a poster that paid homage to this fantastical and heroic story. This dynamic duo of dogs ventured out into space aboard the Sputnik 5 back in August 1960, orbiting Earth 18 times before safely landing.

Bottled in France, the spirit drink blends together the “softest vodka with luxuriously complex” eau-de-vie de Cognac. After establishing the origin of this vodka’s story we wanted to create a design that would stand out from its comrades. It's an extremely versatile vodka that has been created in the same pioneering spirit that helped pave the way for Belka and Strelka's heroism.

Belka and Strelka orbited the earth 18 times aboard Sputnik 5 on 19th August 1960 before landing safely back on earth as canine heroes. That is why when there were plans to introduce this Kazakhstan made vodka , we soon found inspiration in the stars. Not only by standing out from the rest but also by the virtue of honoring a great moment in time, and the spirit that got us there. The long connection between the Royal Navy and rum can be traced back to 1655 and Vice-Admiral William Penn's expedition to the West Indies.

Later, the two dogs’ puppies were given as a gift to the Kennedy family as a lighter point in the space race. Triple-distilled from wheat and filtered through silver, it's made in Kazakhstan, the country where these brave dogs were launched into space from. Their journey paved the way for further exploration and, without their help, the Soviets wouldn't have been able to take the next step and send Yuri Gagarin – the world's first astronaut – up into the deep dark depths of space just one year later. The Ellustria brand portfolio stands for re-imagining beverages and to do so we want to ensure that their stories are heard! Drawing in consumers from both the standard and premium segments, by either being a craft product or of better value. The White Russian was first mixed up back in 1949 when Gustave Tops, a Belgian bartender, dreamt up two luxurious cocktails, the Black and the White Russian. Although they may be dogs, these brave animals gave hope and inspiration to the future of mankind, they went to space and back in 1960 aboard Sputnik 5.
