I've built the hardware and have everything working with the test code, so far so good. I am at a point where I would like to scan some film, but my primary interest is regular 8 and I don't even have any super 8 film to play with. Are you still working on the regular 8mm implementation and do you have an idea when you might have some code to try? While you are quite correct more pixels isn’t going to magic up more data than stored on the film in the first place it does help hugely having many more samples – if you have 1 pixel of data per pixel of sensor any alignment errors, noise, contamination can wipe out data with ease where having 4 or 16 etc sensor pixels per data pixel the errors can be filtered out effectively (yes film doesn’t exactly have pixels its just a way of expressing the concept). Many common negative film types are carefully characterized at Lasergraphics to allow our scanning software to compensate for variation. The result is more accurate color reproduction and less time spent color grading. Thank you for your kind words. I don’t see why not, it’s a matter of scaling up the film handling parts and figuring out the function of the film gate in a new format. My system relues on a film gate from a defunct Bolex, so this would need some work.

The basic idea is to move the 8mm film frame by frame with a stepper motor and take a picture of it. Afterwards putting the images together to a film. Software support for customer-supplied reference monitor via secondary display port (HDMI or DisplayPort)

These models often can work with several different formats like 35mm, slides, or format film. You will have to adjust settings based on the type of film being scanned. However, the biggest perk of a flatbed scanner is that they’re usually multifunctional, scanning developed photos and documents for digital use, too. They are popular and versatile, but some can be difficult to use, requiring setting adjustments with each scan. Capture deeper darks and lighter lights with a negative scanner Assemble the spool holder by gluing the printed parts together and push the bearing on - it should sit very tight! Glue in the magnet. Important: You will find 2 very similar parts in your prints for the spool holder, one for each side. Here you use the slightly longer one. Original films are often put a donor reel and will not be rewound, we put the reel through our system once to prevent any damage caused by rewinding on an old film onto a reel. Then use some fairly simple image recognition software to identify the transport holes in the film and crop to each of the individual frames using those holes as a reference?

Put the spool motor wheel main part onto the motor axle and glue the motor wheel front to the main. (not the axle) Hi! there is indeed a link for the stl files (left side under the team names) - but in case you cant find them:https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1fFjKV_zjYW72i-uLE7GsnJ5kvQ_yrD6i In the resulting scans, we look for a variety of factors including image quality, focus accuracy, sharpness, color accuracy, and color vibrance/saturation to how we would expect each film to look based on our sample of professional lab scanned images and our prior extensive experience of working with film. A lot of film scanners will come with some scanning software included, this might be first-party scanning software from the company that makes the scanner, or they might lean on third-party software which has the benefit of working on any supported scanner from multiple brands.

Stable low-heat LED light source protects film from heat damage and diffuse uniform illumination from the integrating cube reduces the appearance of scratches in the film base and emulsion (that do not damage the dye layers) without softening, blurring, or altering the image.
