About this deal

Just take a look at all those wholesome Goodreads reviewers crying, shaking and throwing up over Kellan's suicide and you'll understand my initial hesitance to show up at the emo-mourning party in my brand new outfit glowing with the positive, let this emo bitch die in peace vibes:

The second half of the book was quite unbearable for me. Tate and Charlotte, our lovely leads, were quite simply obnoxious. Look, I know it's not fair to judge a book by the quality of its smut, but Tate behaved like a real horndog through the first part of the book and said things that made my stomach clench, only to turn into a farting deflated balloon the moment it was time to seal the deal.

Customer reviews

yes, i know i sound like a broken record but i did love each and every character in this book. tate was suffering. a young man himself when his good for nothing dead beat, alcoholic father dumped his teenage son on a fresh out of med school tate, so he could run off with his too-young gold-digging girlfriend. struggling with balancing his job and a rebellious brother who he struggled to connect with, kellan's death affected him so much, that tate never forgave himself. From USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Ashley Jade comes an edgy, enemies-to-lovers standalone romance about mistakes, forgiveness, and second chances. This book was hella predictable, kellan’s death was an anticipated tragedy and I wish the blurb didn’t give it away because I think the unknown would’ve hit me more. For years, I’ve dreamt of what college life could bring and while some things changed, there was always one constant. When I say his attention veered involuntarily to her whenever she got on his radar, I'm not deliberately exaggerating... I'm speaking facts.

This will be the only time I admit I love my brother. So, savor it, folks. It’s all you’re gonna get. While reading the second half of the book, I kept thinking that this girl must have taken a few classes from the internet guru on how to bring raging alcoholics and their decadent sons out of depression. That night in a field of planets absent of stars, he granted my demands, kissing me until my lips bruised and the sun rose over the horizon” one of the greatest scenes is when charlotte, a virgin, decides to allow Tate to perform an exam on her because naturally, he’s an OB-GYN

jonah 🛠️ - did this book really give me not 1, not 2, but 3 perfect heroes??? PARKER YOU ANGEL I BOW DOWN TO THEE. jonah was a MAN. firstly he's a mechanic so i can just imagine his sexy greased-up face, and those hands that i KNOW are godly, secondly, he's a single dad. a girl dad. a dilf to the highest of degrees. need i say more? i will though because he was smitten with leah, a girl he knows is difficult and traumatized, but saw through her facade and loved her for the way she looked after his daughter, & gave a home to her younger sister. i'll just leave these quotes here to describe how much we need to protect this man. once a year, for a stolen hour, i let myself be the venom. the toxin. the thing that poisoned her. but with one momentary lapse in selfishness, i pushed her away. i’ve regretted it everyday since.” Yea those parts were a tiny bit ridiculous but I don't give a shit. Kellan was so precious I believe he could do anything.

asked her personal questions that were clearly none of his business right after claiming that he had no romantic or platonic interest in her, Does not help matters that Tate didn't hold a candle on Kellan (in my humble opinion). Something about him being a Gyno eeked me out, maybe it was that forsaken scene I mentioned earlier which is now the main reason for my chronic hair loss. i knew myself well enough to know i didn’t survive books. they tore me to shreds. i’d never met an inanimate object as talented at breaking hearts as a book.” until he met charlie, the one link to his dead brother, he chased her at the beginning to try and pry as much information as he could out of her about his brother, whilst trying to make sense of what their relationship was. once charlie found the letter that kellan left for her, she dug her way into his home and heart as she worked on the book alongside tate's dad, who was couch surfing in his house as he was a broke, drunk. the dynamic between him and his father was so funny even if tate seemed like he hated him.

fast forward four years later and kellan’s death has brought together two broken souls - charlotte and tate. both are ridden with guilt and self loathing, over the death of their loved ones. Despite a tragic past, Charlie remained bright and committed to bringing light to others. She was an amazing and strong main character. And throughout the book, we see her living and thriving. I found her relationship with her older sister to be extremely sad. When they both were teenagers, they had this amazing bond, and in a flash that all changed. It was so heartbreaking to hear Charlie constantly talk about how Leah blamed her for everything. But that still didn’t stop Charlie from trying to cheer her sister up and standing by her side. Darling Venom is a book I didn’t know that I needed. It’s a true masterpiece from beginning to end. It's heavy and intense, I wouldn’t change one iota. This book will forever have a special place in my heart. It’s my top read of 2021. No matter what I write in my review, I hope to do this book some justice. So here it goes, and I may be all over the place. Working as a nanny for the world’s grumpiest single dad should have been simple. Except I can’t keep my eyes off him. And he can’t keep his hands off of me.

the story before the big revelation about Kellan's suicide letter and manuscript (if he were real he'd bitch slap me from Hell for not saying "final letter" instead). Here we have the stereotypical emo suicidal boi, the sarcastic and colder older brother who ends up becoming a rich doctor, and the desperate child with sissy issues. Emo and desperate child meet. They form a pact to meet once a year in the roof. Shit happens. Emo boi dies. Desperate child cries. Fast forward a couple years. Desperate child walks into older brother having sex with a woman. She stays while he stares right at her. She mentions she knew suicidal boi. Older brother is suddenly interested. The two aren’t friends but they’re also not enemies. They both carry guilty. So, they form a pact and decide to finish some manuscript emo suicidal boi decided to leave. They catch feelings or whatever. A manuscript is completed. The end. Suicide is a war of two fears—fear of death and fear of the thing that pushes you toward it. The stronger side always wins. And if you lose, the penalty is death.” Be part of our book reading community with BBS yearly & LRQ quarterly reading challenges, SRx1x3x3 monthly group reads & #ShhPolls. with that, I want to give a big props to the author for the beautiful note at the beginning of the book Last year, I binged read all of Parker S. Huntington’s books and had an absolute delight. And ever since then I had been patiently waiting for a new release from her. When Darling Venomdropped, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. I went in completely blind and with full trust of the author. Still. It made me cry in several occasions. Now if you’re looking for a good cry then please don’t take my word because I cry for everything. —
